2023 Tax Filing Season Starts January 23rd

Yesterday, January 12th, 2023, the IRS declared that January 23rd would start the individual tax season. That day is the soonest they'll take and process your 2022 returns.

The IRS advises individuals to gather all necessary information before submitting their tax returns. By submitting a thorough and precise tax return, individuals can prevent prolonged processing times and delays in receiving refunds and eliminate the likelihood of having to file an amended tax return.

Tax Filing Deadline

The deadline for submitting your 2022 tax returns or requesting an extension to file and pay any taxes owed is April 18th, 2023, for most taxpayers. The deadline has been moved to April 18th as it falls on a weekend, and the District of Columbia has a holiday on April 17th (Emancipation Day).

Individuals that request an extension to file their taxes will have until the 16th of October, 2023, which falls on a Monday, to submit their documents.
